Ingredients:
2 sticks butter, melted
2 1/2 c walnuts
1 c blanched almonds
3/4 c pistachios, slivered
Zest of 1 orange
Generous pinch of salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
12 phyllo pastry sheets
Crushed pistachios, to garnish
For the syrup:
2/3 c sugar
1/4 c honey
2/3 c water
Juice of 1 lemon
3 cloves
Directions:
Step 1: Place the butter inside the microwave and heat until melted completely.
Step 2: Put the almonds and walnuts into the food processor. Pulse until finely chopped, then transfer the mixture into a mixing bowl.
Step 3: Add the orange zest, slivered pistachios, cinnamon, salt, and 1/4 of the melted butter. Stir until well mixed.
Step 4: Prepare a baking tray and brush it with melted butter.
Step 5: Brush with melted butter a sheet of phyllo. Repeat this process to the rest of the phyllo sheets.
Step 6: Spread the nut mixture over and top it with the prepared sheets. Make sure to brush each layer with butter.
Step 7: Slice each layer in a parallel way. This will form diamond shapes.
Step 8: Place them inside the preheated oven and bake for about an hour.
Step 9: Place a saucepan on the stove and add water, sugar, honey, cloves, and lemon juice. Turn the heat to medium and allow the mixture to boil. Make sure to stir continuously, then remove from the heat.
Step 10: Remove the golden baklava from the oven let it sit at room temperature to cool.
Step 11: Pour the syrup over the baklava and bake for another 5 minutes.
Step 12: Remove from the oven and sprinkle crushed pistachios on top.
Step 13: Allow the baklava to cool at room temperature.
Step 14: Serve and enjoy!
