This easy dinner recipe is your family’s next big star! Packed with ground beef, bacon, onions, and cheese sandwiched between layers of bread, this sure is to die for!
1 pound lean ground beef
1 c yellow onion, diced
1/2 c real bacon bits
1/4 c mayo
1/4 c ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoon onion powder
12 slices bread
1/2 c margarine
4 c shredded mozzarella and cheddar blend
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 400 degrees F.
Step 2: In a large frying pan, cook the ground beef with a bit of butter or margarine over medium-high heat. Note to crumble the beef while cooking. When cooked, drain excess grease.
Step 3: In the same pan, add the diced onions and stir with the ground beef for several minutes, often stirring.
Step 4: Take the pan out of the heat and stir in the bacon bits, mayo, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, and onion powder.
Step 5: Spread around 1/4 cup of margarine onto 6 pieces of bread and slice them in half.
Step 6: In a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish, lay the bread margarine side down and sprinkle over 2 cups of cheese.
Step 7: Evenly spread the meat mixture over.
Step 8: And sprinkle the rest of the 2 cups of cheese on top.
Step 9: Spread again around 1/4 cup margarine onto 6 more pieces of bread and slice in half.
Step 10: Lay the bread on top of the casserole margarine side up.
Step 11: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 to 24 minutes or until the top of the bread is golden brown.
